UBI, or unconditional basic income, is a government system which regularly pays all citizens an equal amount of money. The amount is usually equal or greater to the national poverty line, which is defined as the amount of income required to secure necessaries such as rent and utilities, food, clothing, and household and personal items.

The proposed amounts, systems for establishing basic income, and political parties supporting the movement differ by country.

United States[edit]

On January 2, 2017, Finland became the first country in Europe to pay it's unemployed citizens a basic monthly income, amounting to 560 euros ($587) in an experiment sadly limited to just 2,000 of it's citizens.
